Converting a GP27 CB antenna to a half wave end fed vertical for the 4 metre band.
This is the latest project to be added to my project pages, I needed a 4 metre antenna and after looking at what was available commercially i decided to make my own.
My first thoughts were to make it from scratch until i found an old GP27 antenna that i once used on 10 metres.
I built a simple Pi matching unit and had the prototype up and running in under two hours.
For the finished project i bought a new GP27 which is now converted to a 4 metre end fed half wave and sits on top of my 40ft mast.

The total cost of the antenna including the new GP27 but excluding the capacitors came to just over £25.00, it will depend on what price you pay for the new GP27. As for the capacitors i know a lot of amateurs will have them in their junk boxes as i did, if not have a look on eBay or at the rallies.
By the way with a change of component values to the Pi match and a longer element it will also work well on 6 metres.
